This Earth Day marks the 50th year of celebration. If you aren’t familiar with the history of Earth Day and how it got started, read on! It was started with response to environmental crisis’s such as smog, oil spills and polluted rivers. Millions of Americans banded together to protest environmental issues and wanted to fight for a better path forward for our planet. The first Earth Day helped pass laws like the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts, and even led to the forming of the Environmental Protection Agency.
5 Steps Towards A Truly Greener Workplace
It can be overwhelming to think about all the work that goes into going green or investing in a zero-waste workplace. You may be asking yourself and your team mates, how as a company can we really make a difference? Where do we start? It might be easier than you think.
Reduce and Reuse
The team at Keste makes a daily effort to reduce waste caused from plastic water bottles and paper cups by exclusively using our own reusable water bottles, coffee mugs, and tumblers. A simple yet effective way to protect our planet.
E-Signature
Go paperless with eSignature. No more printing out documents to be signed, scanned and sent via email or even printed, signed and then faxed. Tools like Docusign and BlueInk allow you to efficiently and securely sign documents with an eSignature, reducing paper use.
LEED Building
If there is a possibility of your next office location being located in a LEED Building, it’s worth looking into. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a widely used green building rating system and provides a framework for highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. Our Keste office is located in a LEED building, furthering our investment in green initiatives.
Reduce Waste
Utilize 3 types of trash bins: trash, recycling, and composting, to alleviate and better sort what is being thrown away. Your team will make a conscientious effort to reduce and reuse.
Volunteer
Setup up a workforce volunteer group and sign up for green volunteer initiatives like a park trash pickup. It’s something we do regularly at Keste, and it’s a great way to beautify your local community. Our volunteer initiative, Transform Dallas, plans on participating in more environmentally friendly volunteer opportunities in the future!
How are you participating to make the earth a better place to live this Earth Day or every day? If we act together now, it truly will help save our planet!
